vimeo embed module overlay (via soxiam)
thanks to patrick we now have the embed and share modules that are once again free from certain browsers’ (mis)interpretation of user-initiated popups. this is the first time i’ve been involved in a non-personal project that uses the lightbox effect. i still have mixed feelings about it (particularly with its overuse - hello, apple.com) but in this case we believe this was the best option to exercise without trying to force-fit the module in-line somewhere on the page.

Just wondering if there’s any sort of donation option. Paypal style. I love the site and have been using it a lot. I wouldn’t mind paying a bit for my entertainment.

i don’t disagree with what you are trying to say. yes, the content the ad is playing on is absolutely relevant and should be looked at more carefully in a study like this to paint a more comprehensive and contextual picture. but, with that said… isn’t it also very relevant that this study shows that “one-half (50.7%) stop watching an online video *ONCE THEY ENCOUNTERED* an in-stream advertisement.”? doesn’t that tell us that it was indeed the ad that triggered abandonment rather than the content itself? also, to be fair, i think there are equal amount of people who bash pre-roll ads with vengeance as there are people who thinks online videos are simply unmonetizable without it.
http://www.visiblebody.com/an awesome looking site (i think). i will never know for sure since it’s yet another ie only site.

because feature matrices suck. A feature matrix says: “Here is what everyone else is doing. To be competitive you must do the same.” Where’s the differentiation? Where’s the innovation in doing exactly what everyone else does, ticking the boxes, shaving off one or two points in each row so you get the green tick?

The Fishbowl: Heavier than Air

i had *that* kind of day at work where coming across a quote like this rang like a bell. a very loud bell.

On the IEblog there is this post about compatibility and IE8 and how they will introduce lots of new quirks modes for each new Internet Explorer release, starting with IE8. It appears that they managed to convince “the experts” of the Web Standards Project to deliver the message on no less than A List Apart. Fortunately, the comment crowd does not seem to be buying it.
gapingvoid: “cartoons drawn on the back of business cards”: hugh and the rabbi [podcast]
i used to feel this way about my job quite a bit. especially when the value i added to the company was coming mostly from research and competitive product analysis. and it felt rewarding and detrimental all the same time.

The Apple Store (U.S.) - Kensington ExpertMouse Trackball

i’ve been thinking about going back to kensington expertmouse trackball due to my rsi-ridden right hand rearing its ugly hand again with vengeance. i was glad to see that kensington models were still getting rave reviews from people.

Message Tape fakes digital messages - SlashGear
i think this would be perfect if you want to say… put up a do-not-cross tape on your office front door with messages like “closed due to robot attacks”.
