fact: no one owes you anything. beyond that i tend to organize my bosses in one of the following groups:
- they simply don’t do anything. they’ve stopped trying. it’s a desk, chair and talking about how many meetings or unread emails they have.
- they try. sometimes they try as hard as they can but they are not really helping. worse yet they confuse micromanaging with doing their jobs effectively.
- they understand the difference between goals and tasks and focus on the key areas where they can effectively move the business forward. they work behind the scene to adapt and enable things to happen. they provide the focus and the reasons behind them.
