this post reminded me of a story about lance armstrong. when he was diagnosed with cancer and his team and sponsors were bailing out on him, the ceo of oakley took it upon himself to cover lance’s medical bills by getting him on the company health plan. the insurance company obviously laughed at the idea telling the ceo that he’s just a sponsored athlete with no rights to the company health plan. the ceo told them to cover lance or they were going to shop around for another insurance company. the rest is a history that involves saving young athlete’s life who went on to win 7 tours and, in turn, selling god know how many pairs of oakley m-frame sunglasses to lance wannabe’s. lance is known to have said that he might switch teams and bike sponsors but he’s going to wear oakley to his own funeral.
